Sou Fujimoto Architects in profile

Fascinated from a young age with the idea of distorted space and nonhomogeneity, the work of Sou Fujimoto's studio bears a lightheartedness that treasures the experience of childhood - from the play of light and shade to the experience of the changing seasons. Major commissions include a dormitory building for handicapped children in Hokkaido, Japan, and several dwellings, including House T and House O, both 'continuous space' structures in which the different living areas are created from one, single, unbroken space.

Sou Fujimoto Architects was selected as one of the ten best up and coming architecture practices by Erwin Viray, Professor at Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore and editor of Tokyo-based architectural journal A+U, for the second volume in Phaidon’s 10 x 10 contemporary world architecture series, 10 x 10_2. Sou Fujimoto is one of the architects who was invited to design a structure based around the theme of 'retreat' for the exhibition 1:1 Architects Build Small Spaces at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. His design will be on show until 30 August 2010.
