Celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Festival of Britain are underway at the Southbank Centre, the original site of the definitive event that set the course for post-war British design.

Phaidon.com's contributors, Black Country Atelier (BCA), a young architecture and design practice, are presenting a series of unique and intimate depictions of British industry today, captured by photographer Georgie Clarke. Three installations present small hives of manufacturing, repair, adaptation, taking place in private sheds and kitchens, indicating a shift away from big production lines.

Andy Lo Po has photographed scenes from The Festival of Britain (included in this gallery); the four-month long event, with site-wide installations and exhibitions, will no doubt keep you coming back for more (until 4 September).
