Yayoi Kusama covers NY building with Yellow Trees

Yayoi Kusama is bigger news than ever in New York this summer. The Whitney is hosting a retrospective of her work, Louis Vuitton stores are offering accessories with her trademark dots and her installation Guidepost to the New Space is on view in Hudson River Park.

Now Kusama is set to create an artwork that doubles as netting for a construction site in the Meatpacking district. The 120-foot version of her Yellow Trees piece was commissioned by DDG Partners who say the project cost well into the six figure territory. The work goes up next week on 14th street, incidentally the site of Kusama's first ever performance art piece in 1966. It will be visible from the High Line.
