We Are The People - Danh Vo

Danh Vo wins Hugo Boss prize

Show at the Guggenheim for one of Phaidon's favourite artists at this year's Frieze Art Fair

Congratulations to Danish-Vietnamese artist Danh Vo who's just won this year’s Hugo Boss Prize and will receive $100,000 and a solo show next year at the Guggenheim. Vo's We Are The People artwork was one of the pieces we chose to tweet from this year's Frieze Art Fair.

The artist, who's exhibited very rarely in the US and never in the UK, beat a tough list for the prize, which was selected by a six-person jury headed by the Guggenheim’s chief curator and deputy director, Nancy Spector. The other finalists were Rashid Johnson, Trisha Donnelly, Monika Sosnowska, Tris Vonna-Michell and Qiu Zhijie. A tough call.

Vo's work has appeared in two recent triennials, one at the New Museum in New York this year, and the other in Yokohama, Japan, in 2011. His work was also recently shown at the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently on view at the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago.
