Phaidon's great way to start the day
A cute video featuring the genius of Paul Rand - the man who made corporate America cool
Put together a few of Phaidon’s favourite things - John Baldessari, LACMA, Tom Waits and film makers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and you have the perfect video to start your day.
The directors of the wonderful Catfish film were asked to make the video by Los Angeles County Museum of Art to extol the virtues of an artist who’s done possibly more than any other to turn the world on to the sometimes tricky concerns of conceptual art.
As well as a quirky and revealing look at his myriad achievements in the art world you’ll find out the fact that he has two peepholes in his office door, one at regular people’s height, one at Baldessari height (he’s 6 feet 7), the fact that he carries nothing – “not a thing” – in his pockets and that he has a labrador called Giotto. Oh and look out for Tom Waits’s pronunciation of the word Biennale – it’s quite something.
