Bernd and Hilla Becher inspire a collection of vases

As big fans of German photographic legends Bernd and Hilla Becher we're intrigued by these Michael Breschi-designed vases, inspired as they are by the work of the German photographic artists who so carefully captured the industrial landscapes in which they lived.

In common with the Bechers, as a boy Breschi became fascinated with giant structures and industrial buidlings. Some years later, at university, he came across Bernd and Hilla Becher’s photographs of water towers and industrial facilities, describing the moment as an “epiphany".

His Industry Porcelain collection of vases draw on the shapes of the water towers the Bechers photographed for over 40 years. Breschi sees the collection as “research on the aesthetic of industrial archaeology”. Like the Bechers who documented their surroundings partly in a bid to ensure their longevity, he seeks to “draw attention to the cultural importance of industrial architecture".
