Hotel Droog opens in Amsterdam

Super cool mini mall for good design features pieces by Hella Jongerius, Maarten Baas and Marcel Wanders

Droog has been a by-word for great Dutch design for the past two decades. In that time it’s had its products created by the famous (Hella Jongerius, Hector Serrano, Jurgen Bey, Maarten Baas, Marcel Wanders, Marti Guixe, Stefan Sagmeister, Sam Hecht et al) and the not-so famous. Now, they’ve turned the brand into an experience, in downtown Amsterdam. Hotel Droog comes with the natty strapline ‘a one-stop shop for ironic (sic) design’. With its restaurant, boutiques, terrace, and gallery, Fastcodesign likens it to a super-cool mini-mall, “one-stop shopping to satisfy all your modern tendencies”. Hotel Droog is housed in a 17th century conversion, but the experience is likely to be 100 per cent contemporary.
