Javier Mariscal talks about creating the animation feature film Chico & Rita
The Spanish designer on dyslexia, drawing and dreaming
Javier Mariscal is one of the most highly respected illustrators and designers working today. His work covers a multitude of disciplines, from graphic and industrial design to furniture, interiors, animation and multi-media projects and, most recently, Chico & Rita his feature length animation film (released in the UK on 19 November 2010), which won the Grand Prix at the 2010 Holland Animation Film Festival.
In 1999 Mariscal was awarded the prestigious Spanish Premio Nacional de Diseno award in recognition of his work.
Mariscal's book Drawing Life celebrates his oeuvre (and key works are included in this gallery). Designed, written and illustrated entirely by Mariscal, it a very personal reflection on his career. Mariscal has looked at a wide selection of his major projects and added his individual comments to each in the medium he has always enjoyed the most, drawing.
He now heads a team of designers, illustrators, consultants, architects, editors and animators from his highly successful Estudio Mariscal in Barcelona.
