A fine line up - Colin McDowell curates Drawing Fashion
Fashion drawings come out of the closet at the Design Museum, London
Joelle Chariau, owner of Munich art gallery Bartsch & Chariau, is currently exhibiting her extensive collection of fashion illustrations at London's Design Museum. The collection, which has been gathered over the past 30 years, includes works that are 100 years old.
Colin McDowell, the eminent fashion historian and author, has curated Drawing Fashion (until 6 March 2011). Highlights include original works by fashion house giants such as Dior, Viktor & Rolf, Alexander McQueen and Chanel. Many of the illustrations, including those by illustrator Antonio, have been featured in the elite fashion magazines like Vogue and Elle. Video clips, news reels, music and photography compliment the illustrations on display.
