A couple of weeks back we sent one of the world's greatest graphic designers, Wim Crouwel, a copy of the Phaidon Archive of Graphic Designto see what he thought about it. He was more than impressed, so we asked him to put together an online exhibition of the designs in it that he thinks have really pushed our design culture forward.

Wim's credentials are second to none so we were particularly interested in seeing his choices and hope you will be too. Being in his 80s now (though still effortlessly spry and stylish) he was also impressed by the considerable heft of the package, wrily noting its 13kg weight when it arrived on his south Amsterdam  doorstep.

In the online gallery above we reprint the images from the book as chosen by Wim who simply says, "All of these subjects made, during my lifetime as a designer, a great impression on me." Us too, Wim. When you've flipped through the images, read our recent interview with Wim.
