You need to start everything fresh, like you know nothing, explains the designer Ross Lovegrove. Speaking to Phaidon.com about his approach to design Lovegrove's distinct philosophy fuses the 'unexpected' attributes of art with the 'expected' functionality of design.

Lovegrove, whose iconic designs include Sony Walkman, Ty Nant ripple effect water bottle and contemporary concept car, Kyoto, has also designed this year’s Brit Insurance Designs of the Year awards trophy, the recipient of which will be announced tomorrow (15 March).
