Joel Meyerowitz on Robert Frank

The New York street photographer discusses the man who first got him snapping, among other things

In anticipation of the publication of our two-volume Joel Meyerowitz collection, Taking My Time, we would like to share this video interview, produced by Leica. In the footage, Meyerowitz discusses how, while working as an art director back in the early 1960s, he was first inspired to become a street photographer after seeing the legendary Swiss-American lensman Robert Frank shoot. He also discusses his work documenting New York after 9/11, before going onto reflect on what motivates him today: "I think of photography as ideas. Do the pictures sustain your ideas, or are they just good pictures? I'm not that interested in making more good pictures. I want an experience."
