The René Burri Interviews #2 Henri Cartier-Bresson
The Magnum photographer on why Henri Cartier-Bresson always looked at his photos upside down
When we can, we like to leave you on a Friday with an hour or so long video to spend some time with over the weekend. On Monday the photographers of the VII photo agency were in town for a special talk at the Frontline club in London’s Paddington. The club filmed the event and you can watch it above.
It was a rare occasion in that seven of the photographers, the lion’s share of founder members in fact – were actually all together in one place. For a photo agency that prides itself on being constantly on the move, living on laptops around the world, it was a rare occurrence to sit them down together (and for more than five minutes). Naturally we took the opportunity to get them all to sign a few copies of Questions Without Answers which are in the shop now. Get them while they last.
Founder members Gary Knight, Christopher Morris, John Stanmeyer and newish recruit Lynsey Addario feature in the video above, talking about the early days of VII and the evolving nature of photojournalism as they see it and it's fascinating to hear their stories first hand. And look out for the second part of our interview with VII photo’s CEO Stephen Mayes next week. You can still read the first part here.
