For it's 20th edition ArtFutura, Spain's almost unrivaled annual festival of digital culture and creativity, will be ramping up the volume, stepping outside its native country for the first time since it was founded and relocating to Buenos Aires.

As with previous years the festival features conferences, workshops, exhibitions, live shows and the Audiovisual Program - beamed to 15 Spanish cities which this year are halfway round the world - which profiles the latest in digital animation, a series of special retrospectives and the works nominated for the different ArtFutura Awards.

As well as offering a chance to explore the latest advances in digital art and design, computer animation, videogames and special effects, ArtFutura has traditionally also had a focus on considering the social implications of the new technologies. Themes of past editions include 'Souls and Machines' (2008) and, somewhat portently, 'Virtual Communities' (1995). This year's theme, 'We Live in Public', takes its title from Ondi Timoner's film of the same name, which will be premiered during the festival. The documentary explores the experiences of Josh Harris and his New York dot.com company, Pseudo, at the end of the Millennium. Before the existence of broadband and many of the services we consider to be indispensable today, Harris sensed the consequences of our new life on Internet and the arrival of the social networks.
