Francesco Vezzoli: Sacrilegio

Supermodels such as Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour or Linda Evangelista take the place of the Madonna in Francesco Vezolli's first New York solo show, Sacrelegio, which opens tomorrow (5 Februray) at Gagosian Gallery, New York.

Vezzoli's work often explores the aspects of contemporary media culture - some of his previous projects include an advertising campaign for a fictitious perfume directed by Roman Polanski and site-specific performances featuring superstars like Catherine Deneuve, Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga.

In Sacrelegio, the Milan-based artist focuses on the aspect of parenthood, which, he explains 'seems to be the new Fendi bag. Everybody’s obsessed. Once upon a time the biggest movie star, Elizabeth Taylor, had seven husbands, and now the biggest movie star, Angelina Jolie, has seven kids.'
