Louise Bourgeois and the mother of spider sculpture
Iceland hosts never-before-seen works by the artist who translates emotions into objects
Working Title exhibition (until 25th September) at Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth sees thirteen artists take unwanted everyday objects donated by the public, and transform them into something beautiful or unusual or incorporating them into performances.
The gallery becomes both exhibition space and workshop, allowing visitors to walk around the artists as they work. Working Title makes contemporary art accessible to a broad public by encouraging visitors to talk with the artists about the ideas behind their work and watch the techiniques the artists employ to translate that idea into a work of art.
In recycling commonplace domestic items, the exhibition dispels the idea of using traditional art materials to create sculpture and inspires the audience to notice the creative potential of their surroundings.
