Today marks the start of the 40th New Directors/New Films festival, in association with MoMa and the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York (23 March - 3 April). In past years, the festival has uncovered directing talents such as Darren Aronofsky, Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg.

New Directors/New Films introduces the work of emerging filmmakers from around the globe, and gives cinephiles a chance to see the next best directors. Film screenings include Anne Sewitsky's directorial debut HAPPY HAPPY (2010), a Norweigan comedy about the inevitable realities of couplehood and adulthood, which won the Grand Jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and J.C. Chandor's Margin Call (2011)an exposé that traces 24 hours on an investment bank trading floor, which boasts an all-star cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Demi Moore.

With 28 films being screened, as well as seven shorts, this year's New Directors/New Films festival is likely to offer some of the freshest and most promising cinema experiences.
