Ever since its launch in 1964 - when the sensuous images shot by celebrated photographer Robert Freeman brought it to the international spotlight - the Pirelli Calendar's imagery has become a shorthand for imaginative, chic and sexually-charged photography.
The forthcoming 2011 edition of the Calendar has been photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, multi-talented creative director of Chanel. Describing the project as a 'visual version of Homer', Lagerfeld has cast some top names to play the roles of ancient heroines, including Freja Beha Erchsen, Anja Rubik, Lara Stone and actress Julianne Moore.
