Anri Sala at Locarno Film Festival
Olivier Père selects 10 best new filmmakers
An international mix of young, promising filmmakers to watch
This year's 64th annual Locarno Film Festival pays tribute to film maker Anri Sala, screening some of his most important works to date, as well as his latest production, 1395 Days Without Red, which recently premiered at the Manchester International Festival.
Anri Sala has achieved international recognition as one of Europe’s most interesting cinematic storytellers.
Sala was born in Albania in 1974, under the country’s repressive regime. His work reflects the relationship between Eastern Europe’s past, present and future, straddling the boundary between documentary and fiction.
In celebration of Sala’s achievements, the festival will be screening 1395 Days Without Red, Long Sorrow, Le Clash and Answer Me. In addition to the screenings which take place today and tomorrow (9-10 August), Hans Ulrich Obrist will host 'Ever Sala' a conversation with Anri Sala, Liria Begeja and Maribel Verdú to explore Sala's artistic practice.
