Phaidon and Free Arts NYC honour Lawrence Weiner
We joined Marian Goodman Gallery, Gagosian Gallery and Artsy in sponsoring a charity dinner and auction
New York’s collectors, artists and philanthropists gathered at the Ukrainian Institute of America on Manhattan’s Upper East Side last Wednesday for the 19th annual Free Arts NYC auction.
This year’s sale and gala dinner – which benefits Free Arts NYC, a New York charity providing art and mentoring programs for children - honoured the New York artist Lawrence Weiner, and Phaidon offered the 120 VIP dinner guests a little insight into this 76-year-old artist’s work, by giving each of them a complimentary copy of our Contemporary Artist Series book on Weiner.
Guests, including the actress Mia Moretti, the actor and jewellery designer Waris Ahluwalia, and the artist Zoë Buckman, went on to bid for and admire works by Katherine Bernhardt, Glenn Ligon, Eddie Martinez, Dana Schutz, Taryn Simon, Lawrence Weiner, and Christopher Wool, to raise money for this worthy cause.
